D is for death and ten grave facts.

01.  "It is estimated that 100 billion people have died since humans began."

02.  "A human head remains conscious for about 15 to 20 seconds after it is been decapitated.  When a person dies, hearing is generally the last sense to go. The first sense lost is usually sight. Then follows taste, smell, and touch."  This added some interesting camera work in "Midnight Meat Train".

03.  "Each year, 22,500 cemeteries across the United States bury approximately:

30 million board feet (70,000 m³) of hardwoods (caskets)
    90,272 tons of steel (caskets)
    14,000 tons of steel (vaults)
2,700 tons of copper and bronze (caskets)
1,636,000 tons of reinforced concrete (vaults)
827,060 US gallons (3,130 m³) of embalming fluid, which most commonly includes formaldehyde.[2]

More than an environmental concern, this is a potential hazard for those that work in the mortuary profession:

Alternatively, a Swedish company, Promessa, will freeze-dry your body in liquid nitrogen, pulverize it with high-frequency vibrations, and seal the resulting powder in a cornstarch coffin. They claim this "ecological burial" will decompose in 6 to 12 months."

It's used most often (according to what I read) to make compost, which can be used to plant a memorial tree or garden.  I love this idea and wonder why the Go Green! people in America aren't advocating it.  The only other thing I like this much is the idea of taking a bit of your loved one's (including pets) ashes and having it made into a diamond.

04.  "During a railway expansion in Egypt in the 19th century, construction companies unearthed so many mummies that they used them as fuel for locomotives."

05.  "More people commit suicide in New York City than are murdered."

06.  "More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes.

More people are killed each year by coconuts than sharks. (Approximately 150 people are killed each year by coconuts.)

You are more likely to be killed by a champagne cork than by a poisonous spider."

So, if you ever see a donkey carrying a coconut and a bottle of champagne, know that death is near.

07.  "Your statistical chance of being murdered is 1 in 20,000. "

08.  "There are 5 times as many deaths due to the negligence of doctors as there are deaths due to firearms."

09.  "Homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women.  Most of these homicides are committed by the father of the child."

10.  "In 1845, President Andrew Jackson's pet parrot was removed from his funeral for swearing."

Bonus fact:
"Nearly ten thousand people die every day in the United States, the majority of deaths occurring in urban environments. As such, a resident of a metropolis might encounter up to 1.7 people per day who will be deceased by day's end.

~ North American Statistics Institute, 2002"
